A Russian government official, Marat Tambiev, allegedly accepted Bitcoin bribes worth $28 million from a hacker group he was investigating, making it the country's largest bribery case. Tambiev, head of an investigative department in Moscow, reportedly received over 1,000 BTC from members of the Infraud Organization Mark hacker group to refrain from seizing their assets. The incident highlights the growing usage of cryptocurrency in Russia, where the government is considering regulations for crypto exchanges. Despite this, digital assets cannot be used as a form of payment for goods and services in the country, following President Putin's ban in July 2022.
